The five ALM Group board directors are experienced and highly committed to the Australian Land Management Group purpose.

Nelson Quinn - Chairman

Nelson has many years experience in developing and managing environmental policies and programs in Australia and overseas. He has particular expertise in law, science-user interaction and strategic planning. He how owns a small property near Canberra, where he grows sheep, cattle and olives. He is also director of Southern Tablelands Olives Pty Ltd and president of the New South Wales Olive Council. He is heavily involved in landcare activities, including as chair of the Murrumbidgee Landcare Association. He was awarded a Centenary Medal for "service to the environment and conservation through landcare".

Jock Douglas, AO, Inaugural Chair of the ALM Group

Jock Douglas produces desert limes and beef cattle near Roma, Queensland. He has an enduring interest in the sustainability of natural resources and the wellbeing of rural communities. Jock is a landcare member and President of the Roma Bush Gardens Association. He was involved in the genesis of landcare and was Chairman of the Queensland Landcare Council from 1992-96.  He has been President of the Cattlemen's Union of Australia and an executive member of the National Farmers Federation and the Cattle Council of Australia. In 1996 Jock was awarded the McKell Medal for outstanding contribution to soil and land conservation and in 1997 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for ‘service to primary industry and to conservation’.

Tony Gleeson - Chief Executive Officer

Tony’ has over 40 years experience in research, policy and political analysis. His studies on motivation, creativity and innovation and his other experiences have influenced the design of the Certified Land Management (CLM) system. He has worked in the NSW Department of Agriculture, CSIRO, and the NSW Overseas Trade Authority and, in the 1980s, was Chief of Staff for the Australian Minister for Primary Industries and Energy. He and his partner Liz have owned and managed a grazing property in NSW since 1981. In 1990 he established a contract research business completing over 120 major agricultural and natural resource projects, including the land assessment paper for the 2006 Australian State of the Environment Report. He is Adjunct Associate Professor, Faculty of Agriculture and Law, University of New England and was an inaugural Director of RIRDC, Board Member of the Queensland Abattoir Corporation, member of the Advisory Board to the Centre for Rural and Regional Innovation, University of Queensland and coordinator of the Northern Australia Beef Research Program.

Geoff Penton - Board director

Geoff is an agricultural science graduate from the University of Western Sydney (Hawkesbury) who has been working in landcare since 1989. He is one of four regional landcare facilitators employed by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, and has had a continuous involvement in landcare for sixteen years. Geoff is chief executive officer of the Queensland Murray-Darling Committee and oversees the activities of this NRM organisation. He is also chairman of the Queensland Landcare Foundation, a non-profit fundraising company dedicated to supporting the landcare movement across the state.

Darren Marshall

Darren Marshall is a specialist in landscape scale environmental management and environmental management systems. He is currently the Feral Animal and Weed Management Regional Coordinator with the Queensland Murray-Darling Committee, an organisation he joined in 2005 as a Property Planning Officer.  He is also the ALM Group principal Trainer/ Auditor. Darren has also worked with Inglewood Shire Landcare, (the then) Queensland Department of Natural Resources, the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Australian Army.

Darren’s interests lie in improving environmental management through working with land managers to address issues that can only be addressed at a landscape scale, particularly linking good research with on-ground outcomes.
